Woman, Landlady In Police Net Over Husband’s Death!

Policemen from Azuka division, Ogbor Hill in Aba, Abia State, at the weekend, arrested a woman identified as Immaculata, and her landlady, over the death of the former’s husband. It was gathered that before the incident, the deceased, Ndubuisi Kalu, had worked in an establishment where he earned N15,000 monthly until he lost the job.
To improve the income of the family, his wife, Immaculata, was said to have secured a N3,000 monthly job from their landlady identified simply as Mrs. Blessing, which she often gave to husband, for their accommodation.
A source told Daily Sun that apparently due to the family’s lean purse, the late Kalu, who was said to be epileptic, always quarrelled with his wife over mundane things.
Things got out of hand last week, when, on Thursday evening, Kalu returned to their home and because there was no food for the family to eat, he went to a neighbour and collected soup for their dinner.
This did not go down well with his wife, who reasoned that it was insulting for her husband to have gone to someone to collect soup.
Following the consequent quarrel between the couple, the landlady, who was tired of their constant squabbles, paid Mrs Kalu off and ordered the family to pack out of her house within 24 hours.
At the expiration of the quit notice, the landlady allegedly engaged the services of two thugs, who came on Friday to throw out the couple’s property from her house, despite appeals from Mrs. Kalu for more time to enable them look for alternative accommodation.
It was gathered that, rather than join in the appeal to their landlady, Kalu allegedly picked up quarrel with his wife, blaming her for their predicament, and in an attempt to ward him off, the woman allegedly pushed him and he fell.
Shortly after the altercation, the man reportedly lay down on a mat at the corner of the compound and started foaming in the mouth. People, who were around, including his wife were said to have associated the foaming with epilepsy, but unknown to them, that the man was dead.
The late man’s wife and the landlady were later arrested and detained by the police
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ezekiel Onyeke (DSP), confirmed the incident and the arrests. He said police were also on the heels of the thugs, who, without a valid court order, came to evict the couple from their apartment.
