The city of Akure erupted in wild jubilation on Wednesday as the Appeal Court in Abuja gave its judgment reinstating Eyitayo Jegede as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Taxi drivers and market women trooped to the popular Oba Adesida Road to celebrate the verdict.
Vehicles strapped with huge speakers with music baring in different directions lined the streets as they shouted “Eyi nio oo!”
Some young men stopped at a bar along the main road and started drinking openly in celebration of the victory.
Meanwhile, the PDP has called on its members who supported Jimoh Ibrahim to return and ensure victory come Saturday.
The Director of Publicity of the party in Ondo State, Ayodele Fadaka, said the party had lost some grounds, but it would ensure those grounds were recovered in the next few days.
“We did not dismantle our structure while the battle lasted,” Mr. Fadaka said. “We only decided to run with INEC to ensure that we emerge victorious.”
According to him, a good number of the party members were genuinely misled, and should also retrace their steps.
“We have lost some grounds, because some people were genuinely misled by the Jimoh Ibrahim conundrum, but now we will try to recover all the grounds lost and ensure we win on Saturday,” Mr. Fadaka said.
