The Borno state authorities have urged the local and international community to enhance support to the displaced people living in camps.
According to Leadership, Alhaji Grema Terab, the chairman of the Borno Emergency Management Agency, disclosed that each of the 21 camps recorded about six child births daily. This makes about 126 babies every day.
Speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri, the official said:
“We record an average of between five and six births in each of the 21 camps daily. The IDPs are residents of 22 out of the 27 local government areas of the state.
“The state government is solely responsible for their daily feeding and provision of other needs…”
“Sometimes, we record a large number of twins. This is most common in the Federal Training Centre camp, where IDPs from Bama local government are taking refuge.”
It should be recalled that after the rescue of hundreds of women and children from Sambisa Forest, the medical tests showed that more than 200 of the young ladies had been impregnated by Boko Haram insurgents.
Nigerian society divided into two groups. Some insisted that the women should abort their pregnancies as unwanted children from terrorists are not welcome in the world.
The others said that innocent babies should not pay for the militants’ atrocities and could become well-meaning Nigerians, if brought up with love.
