No fewer than 15 people, including traders, were on Sunday killed by some suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists who stormed a local market in Daku village of Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. Several shops, houses, vehicles and motorcycles were also set ablaze during the attack.Askira Uba, which shares local boundaries with Biu, Chibok, Gwoza and Hawul council areas, is about 190 kilometres drive from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
DailyPost gathered from reliable sources that the gunmen numbering over 20, armed with Ak47 rifles, improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs, invaded the market square using motorcycles and one Hilux Toyota vehicle at about 11 am and opened fire on traders, killing 15.
The insurgents, who operated without confrontation, equally carted away food items, unspecified amount of money and fled towards the Sambisa forest.
Police and the military, however, did not confirm the incident as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jibril and the 7 Division Nigerian Army spokesman, Col. Muhammadu Dole could not be reached on the phone.
