The Federal government yesterday sacked 22 senior officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN. Top directors, general managers and deputy general managers were handed their termination letters while some general managers were demoted.
Sources at the Ministry of Aviation say the sack is part of efforts by the Federal government to reduce the monthly overhead of the ministry as most of the top management officers had replicated duties.
The termination of appointments followed a petition by some persons over the unlawful promotion and placing of some junior staff and new entrants into the ministry.
It is alleged that some of the top managers who were employed by the former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, had only graduated from University in the last 5 years and were placed as manager even without any experience. Some of such managers have been demoted to their appropriate levels.
