On Wednesday, 44-year old Israel Dike, a father of seven tied all seven children, including his triplet, to a wheel-barrow soliciting for buyers for the children, saying he was fed up with his dwindling economic fortunes. The children were however rescued by officials of Imo state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development who were tipped off by an anonymous caller. When apprehended the father of seven disclosed that he planned selling some of them so he could use the funds in caring for the others. Dike blamed the Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha for his economic woes saying, "Owelle Okorocha is the cause of what I am passing through today. He made me a promise in the past and has failed to redeem it till today.
Addressing the press on the incident, Mrs. Nma Onyechere,Imo Commissioner for Women Affairs, described Dike as a "depressed man, who is mentally deranged". She urged the wife to go for planning while promising to find good foster homes for the children.
