An express train slammed into a parked freight train on Monday, killing 9 people and injuring at least 100 in northern India. The collision caused six cars of the Gorakhpur Express passenger train to derail in an eastern district of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, Railway Ministry spokesman Anil Saksena said.
At least 9 people were killed, District Magistrate Bharat Lal said. Rescuers were working to free people trapped under toppled cars and broken metal debris.
