Two of the men, Isiaka Jimoh and Dauda Hassan, who allegedly gang-raped two secondary school students of ages 12 and 13 with others still at large, were was on Thursday brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Jimoh, 18, and Hassan, 21, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and defilement.
According to NAN, the prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused with others now at large committed the offences on Jan. 29 at Pipeline, Aboru in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State at about 11.30 p.m.
She alleged that the accused had gang raped the girls who were on an errand.
“It was an onlooker who notified the police and the men were immediately arrested.
“Jimoh and another defiled the 12-year-old girl, while Hassan and one at large raped the 14-year-old girl,” she said.
The offences contravened Sections 137 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
She said that Section 137 carries a life imprisonment.
Chief Magistrate A. Ipaye Nwachukwu granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
She said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the second surety should be a community leader.
The sureties must provide evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government and their addresses should be verified by the court, she added.
The magistrate adjourned the case to April 4.
