Nyako Was Impeached For Refusing To Give Adamawa Lawmakers N1billion Bribe! – APC

The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Peoples Congress (APC), yesterday claimed that the refusal of Admiral Murtala Nyako to give the state lawmakers N1billion led to his removal as the state Governor.
The party alleged that the disagreement between the ex-governor and the state House of Assembly started after he refused to bow to the lawmakers’ demand of N1 billion for constituency projects.

Speaking at a news conference in Yola yesterday, APC chairman in the state, Binta Masi Garba, said Nyako insisted on giving N500 million, out of which, N350 million was disbursed to the lawmakers before his impeachment.

“The relationship between Nyako and the House of Assembly deteriorated three months after the lawmakers passed a vote of confidence on his administration as one of the best in the country,” she said.

“Members of the House of Assembly wanted Governor Nyako to give them N1 billion for constituency projects and he said he did not have that amount. But he agreed to give them N500 million.”
She accused the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of using government machinery to oppress the opposition and instigate removal of legally elected officials who it views as threat.

The chairman also lamented what she called the manipulation of the judiciary.

“The Acting Chief Judge of Adamawa State compromised his position as a judge by contradicting his rulings on the impeachment matters, thereby allowing the flawed process to scale through,” she said.

“The notice of impeachment was not personally served on the governor in line with requirements of the country’s constitution and ruling of the Supreme Court. Also, despite subsisting court order issued by the acting Chief Judge, restraining the legislature from proceeding with the issue pending the determination of the case, the same acting Chief Judge went ahead to set up a panel to investigate the allegations in direct contravention of his earlier order which he had not vacated.”
