Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has slashed his salary and traveling allowances by half until the state government clears the backlog of salaries and allowances it is owing workers. He made the announcement today at the Government House, Umuahia, during the swearing-in of the state new Head of Service, Dr. Vivian Uma.The governor, who expressed sadness that workers in the state were being owed, promised to do everything within his power to ensure that their salaries and allowances for the last three months are systematically cleared.Dr. Ikpeazu called on other appointees, who can, to follow his example and stressed that there was need to cut down on the cost of governance.
