Prior to her publicised arrest, there have been reports that former Minister of Petroleum resources Diezani Alison-Madueke has breast cancer. Her lawyer Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe has now confirmed it, adding that she is receiving treatment for it in the United Kingdom.
Onwudiwe said in a statement that the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, who was arrested last week in London on corruption-related offences, began the treatment for cancer in the UK while she was in office.
“The health crisis has unfortunately exacerbated in recent times,” her lawyer said in the statement.
Since it was reported in May that Mrs. Alison-Madueke somehow booked herself on the same London-bound flight of then President-elect Muhammad Buhari and tried to strike up a conversation with him but he ignored her, She has not returned to Nigeria.
Shortly afterwards, to was reported that she was in the United Kingdom to receive medical treatment for cancer.
Mr. Onwudiwe also said in his statement that her client underwent chemotherapy last week and is scheduled to undergo surgery next week. The authenticity of the lawyers claims has however not be verified.
