Governor Obiano presents 2016 'Budget for Efficiency, Optimization, Productivity and Job Creation' before members of ANHA. Governor Willie Obiano reading the budget speech; His Excellency, the governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano has today, Thursday, December 3, 2015 presented his administration's proposed budgetestimates for 2016 to members of the Anambra state House of Assembly.
In his budget speech which he termed 'Budget for Efficiency, Optimization, Productivity and Job Creation', Governor Obiano said the budget of N101.4bn represents a significant decrease of 38% over the current fiscal year's budget estimate. Capital expenditure is projected at N52.8bn while Recurrent expenditure will be N48.6bn. The figures represent a Capital to Recurrent Expenditure ratio of 52:48 as against 67:33 in the current year.
Key budgetary allocations include; Works and Infrastructure N30.0bn, Education N3.0bn, Health N2.45bn, Public Utilities N1.8bn and Agriculture (Rural development) N1.02bn.
While reviewing the budget performance for 2015, Governor Obiano said the year in review remains one of great difficulty in the nation's recent memory but that despite the challenges, his government has kept faith with Ndi Anambra by faithfully implementing the budget.
He remained optimistic of the great potentials that abound in Anambra state and used the occasion to once again clarify that his administration, contrary to the bogus figures that have been bandied around in the last 19 months only inherited the sum of N36bn in liquid assets from the previous administration and a portfolio of legacy projects of N107bn.
He said that his administration does not plan to increase taxes and rates in 2016 and called on members of the House to expeditiously consider and pass the budget proposal to enable his government continue to transform the fortunes of Anambra state for the better.
