Popular singer D’banj has been named brand ambassador by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture as they unveil a new initiative to attract youths to the sector. The minister of agriculture, Akinwunmi Adesina, unveiled the initiative called Nigerian Agricultural Entrepreneurs (Nagropreneurs) which will be rolled out in the coming months.
Adesina said that the goal of the programme was to collect roughly 750, 000 young entrepreneurial farmers for the country, who will become the engine in transforming Nigeria’s agriculture in the future.
“I will want D’banj to be the Ambassador for Nagroprenuers and to help communicate this initiative to youths. We want to change the labour component of agriculture; most farmers today are old at an average age of 60 years. We must get the younger people to imbibe agriculture as a business; that is why President Goodluck Jonathan launched a programme called Nigerian Agricultural Entrepreneurs (Nagroprenuers).”
The Koko master shared the good news on his Instagram alongside a snap oh himself with the minister.
He wrote in the caption: “Yesterday was very fulfilling as I chilled with the Hon. Minister of Agriculture,Dr @akin_adesina as he unfolded his on going plans for the development of Agriculture in Nigeria. Indeed Agriculture is the newest way of creating wealth and my Youths we do it with swag no need for cutlasses & hoes. #DoAgric it pays.”
